About Us
Balm of Gilead Health Ministry is a non-profit, Christian-based, health ministry founded by Dr. Raymond Yuen and Mr. James Ong in late 2009, in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We feel that while churches today have been doing an excellent job in ministering to the mind, emotions and spirit of Christians through Biblical preaching, teaching and counseling, ministering to the physical body often lacks a key dimension. After praying for the sick, Christians are often asked to seek conventional medical help, which relies primarily on drugs, surgery and radiation, which do not often promote true recovery and long-term health.
We believe there is urgency for the Christian church to rediscover the principles and precepts of true healing and wellbeing as taught in God’s Word.

The choice of name for our ministry is based on Jeremiah 8:21-22:
21For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me. 22Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?
It is as if God is weeping for the sick among His people. Indeed, the answer to the two rhetorical questions have to be emphatically, “Yes!” Yes, there is a Great Physician – Jehovah Rapha Himself – standing in our midst. We have all the God-created gifts of nature – health-giving foods, herbs and essential oils, available since the beginning of time. That’s God healing balm for us. Yet, many of us are not well. We are debilitated by all manner of chronic degenerative diseases. Or we fall prey to opportunistic infectious diseases. All of which adversely affects our effectiveness for the Lord and drains us financially.
We believe that many in the Church today are sick because we have not availed ourselves of the gifts that God has placed in nature for our sustenance and wellbeing. Instead, we have embraced man-made foods, medicines and medical procedures that often do more harm than good. Is it because we have believed the lie that the answer to our health problems lies in some new, high-tech and expensive drug or procedure offered or yet to be offered by modern medicine?
Our ministry is carried primarily through conducting talks, seminars, workshops, retreats and ministry sessions in conjunction with churches and parachurch organizations.
